The piers of Kilbeg and Knockferry were buzzing on the evening of 2 October 2024.  Temporary interactive installations on each pier, simultaneously lit up, shone out across the lake as if connecting the opposite shore communities.

Led by Helena McElmeel Architects, and funded by the Art Council’s Architecture Project Award Fund 2024, the installations (which remained in place until until 7 October 2024) were inspired by lighthouse structures.  They were created by primary school students from Claran, Clydagh, Collinamuck and Roscahill schools, and incorporated art created during collaborative workshops.  Corrib Beo were delighted to be one of the supporting partners.

The project provided the students with a deeper understanding of the rich architectural and built heritage around our lake and the name Corrib 471 reminded us all that only 471m of water separates the communities to east and west of Lough Corrib – it takes 5 minutes by boat or 50 minutes by car!
