‘Corrib Shores This is our Place’, is a bilingual exhibition, curated by Corrib Beo, supported by local authorities, and created by community groups from around Lough Corrib. Launched by Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr. Ollie Turner on Saturday morning 12 October 2024, the exhibition runs in Galway City Museum until 30 November 2024.
Highlighting twenty sites of built and natural heritage, across Annaghdown, Caherlistrane, Collinamuck, Cong, Galway City, Headford, Killannin, Maigh Cuilinn, Menlo and Oughterard, this exhibition features such sites as a limestone pavement similar to the Burren, a pyramid, one of the oldest hatcheries in the world, a seventeenth century market cross and Ireland’s only inland lighthouse.
‘Place is not just a location’ – we hope you get a chance to visit the exhibition and learn more about our local sites that people, or nature, have made meaningful over time.
After November, the exhibition will be made mobile, and available to community groups (on application) to borrow if they wish to host it in their local area. Enquiries in this respect to corribbeo@gmail.com
